Proactive, Persistent, Personable... The Key to Successful Social Networking

By now you've probably heard how important it is to join the social networks. Your competitors are members…why not join and see what all the fuss is about? Great! You're on the right track. The trick, however, is what you do after that initial registration.

The common mistake is to join the site, make your page look informative and appealing to the eye and then just forget about it. After all, you've done your job and your information is now accessible through that website. What many fail to take into consideration is how many members each social networking site has and that current members are constantly being pushed to the back burner to make room for new ones.

Don't panic…I have just the trick to make sure this doesn't happen to you. Update! By continuously updating your information and engaging in conversations, your presence in the social community will remain active.

Take Twitter for instance. The sole reason for this network is to create an ongoing conversation with fellow members. Tweeters are updating every second of the day and each new tweet slowly pushes yours down the list until it completely disappears. Had you been tweeting more than once a day, or dare I say week, your name would shine at the top of the recently tweeted list.

Maybe in the beginning you were proactive with your blog or forum; it's a whole new and exciting world for you. But then, as the days go by, it gets to be an annoying daily task so you forget about it. Having a blog that doesn't stay current is almost worse than not having one at all! Not committing to your social media makes you lose credibility and presence within the online community.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and update your social profiles! Stay committed to each and you will begin to see the many possibilities for your business.
